Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Damien and Ben scrub into the freshest installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, will the Dial of Destiny wash away their fears, or will it leave them with the icky residue of Crystal Skull?

In the UK we never had the fluorescent drink you spoke of! An excellent, balanced review of the film. Definitely better than Crystal Skull. Phoebe W-B is certainly delivering on the charisma in it. The filmmakers seem to have forgotten this element of Indy’s character in completely “gruffing” him up with age.

The “youthenisation” worked ok for me, nice to see the character in his prime again at least. I wonder if an action adventure movie is the best forum to address a character study on the impact of age and time? Though it worked effectively enough in Logan. Maybe I’m too close to the character of Jones to see him sad and decaying. Or did it cast a shadow of melancholy over me by the end as it reminds us of our own mortality?

I had mixed feelings on the movie, not sure the final reel landed for me personally. From various online reviews I’ve seen, it seems people very much go either way on this. My first words to my wife on leaving the cinema were “I didn’t hate it, but I don’t need to see it again.” So not exactly a huge endorsement!
